How Much Does Medicare Part B Cost?

While Part A is often premium-free, Part B comes with a monthly premium. In 2024, that premium starts at $174.70, but may be higher depending on your income.

Other Part B costs include:

  • Annual deductible: $240 (2024)
  • 20% coinsurance after deductible is met
  • No out-of-pocket maximum

That’s why many people add a Medigap plan or switch to a Medicare Advantage plan to help manage expenses.

How Part B Works with Other Medicare Coverage

Part B is essential to both:

  • Original Medicare (Parts A + B) — the foundation of your Medicare coverage
  • Medicare Advantage plans — which require you to be enrolled in both Part A and B

We’ll guide you in choosing whether to stick with Original Medicare + a supplement, or go with a bundled Advantage plan.
